A Llanon woman assaulted her ex-partner when she saw him during a night out in Aberystwyth.

Catrin Gwendoline Jones, 23, slapped and headbutted Sean Knowles during a confrontation on 18 November.

Jones had pleaded not guilty to assault but was convicted after a trial, and she said the situation had improved since then and that the two were now amicable.

Prosecutor Helen Tench said police had been called by a friend of Mr Knowles after Jones, of 4 Lôn Cledan, had assaulted him.

Mr Knowles told police that during the night Jones had approached him several times trying to talk to him, but that he wasn’t interested.

He said that he eventually went outside to talk to her, but after she accused him of sleeping with her friend, she slapped Mr Knowles twice.

Ms Tench said that Mr Knowles said he had tried to walk away, but Jones had followed him and eventually grabbed him and headbutted him, while also shouting abuse.

Jones, who represented herself, said that since the incident things had improved between herself and Mr Knowles and that the two were now amicable.

Jones said that she was close to completing a childcare course, but that she’d been warned that her conviction might make it difficult for her to find a job so was likely to need to do further training.

Jones was given a nine-month community order and will have to complete 10 rehabilitation activity requirement days.

She will pay costs of £385.
