Editor,
As we approach Remembrance Day, we think of those who died in two world wars - both soldier and civilian. And we remember those who lost their lives in all subsequent conflicts.
Today we find ourselves in equally perilous times. The enemy now is unseen, unheard, it fires no bullets, drops no bombs. but it kills just as lethally as those dropped on this then United Kingdom. On Swansea, on Cardiff, on Newport; on Coventry, Liverpool and London.
Already this silent enemy has killed more than the Blitz.
We cannot man the machine guns, fly an aeroplane, make the bombs nor the bullets to kill this foe, it cannot be killed. Our only weapon to deny this virus is ourselves. Withdraw our bodies, its host, from an invasion more deadly than that of Nazi Germany.
Any one of us could unwittingly be carrying this enemy within us and pass it on to our families and friends.
To the nit-pickers, the troublemakers, the attention seekers I would say: 17 days is not long, I beg you keep yourselves to yourselves.
