TRIBUTES have been paid to an Aberaeron student who tragically died in a two-vehicle crash.

Mathew Wyn Evans, 20, died at the scene when his car was in collision with a lorry on the A485 in Pontarsais at around 3.15pm on Monday last week.

Following the crash, an eight-mile stretch of road from Glangwili Roundabout in Carmarthen to Windy Corner Garage towards Pencader was closed for about seven hours.

Mr Evans, a student at Llanelli’s Coleg Sir Gâr, is believed to have been driving home to Aberaeron when the fatal crash happened.

Mat’s girlfriend, Jade Griffiths, wrote an emotional tribute on Facebook, saying: “My life will never ever be the same without you, I’m so glad I spent a year and a bit doing your absolute head in.

“I love you absolutely trillions my lil squishy.

“I loved our cuddles this morning and ill never forget them, there will be a missing piece in my heart forever. until we meet again pud [sic].”

Aberaeron county councillor Elizabeth Evans, who knew Mr Evans, said the community had been left “deeply shocked”.

A public funeral will be held at Aberystwyth crematorium on Friday at 3pm.
