FAMILIES looking for a ‘buzz’ this Friday will have the chance to help boost bee populations in Penparcau.

The Bumblebee Conservation Trust will be hosting an event at Quaker Hall tomorrow as part of the Bee Wild West Wales project, which encourages people to engage with bumblebees and get communities ‘buzzing’.

The aim of the event is to engage through fun activities for all ages, including junk modelling and collaging with RAY Ceredigion, with the opportunity to design a new bee-friendly green space feature for the under-construction Penparcau Community Centre.

Sinead Lynch, conservation officer for the project, said: “This will be a great opportunity for people in Penparcau to help design new features for one of their green spaces.

“We would like to use this space, and two others in Ceredigion, as brilliant examples of what people can do to make their green spaces more bee-friendly.”

Bumblebee Conservation Trust is working across Ceredigion, Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire with organisations including Penparcau Community Forum, Ceredigion County Council, Mid Wales Housing Association and the Wildlife Gardening Forum.

The project has plenty of opportunities for people to get involved in helping bumblebees, including learning about bumblebees through talks and walks, as well as free training in how to identify different species of bumblebee.

“We know our bees are in trouble, and this is a great chance to learn how we can all give them a helping hand,” said Chloe Griffiths, local ecologist and member of Penparcau Community Forum Wildlife Group.
