A CRICCIETH singer-songwriter has been nominated for a major awards show.
Gwyneth Glyn has been nominated for Best Original Track in the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, the biggest awards ceremony of its type in the UK.
The nomination is for the track Cân y Cwn from Gwyneth’s album Tro, which released in September 2017 on the new bendigedig label, a partnership between Theatr Mwldan - based in Cardigan - and ARC Music Productions International Ltd.
“I’m thrilled to be nominated for a Radio 2 Folk Award, and in the good company of such a wonderful aray of artists,” she said.
“I’m also delighted that Dylan Fowler, who produced and plays on the album Tro has also been nominated for Best Traditional Track with his band Alaw.
“It’s a joy to be working with such passionate and dedicated musicians.”
The awards ceremony is due to take place in Belfast on 4 April when the winners will be announced.
The track features Gwyneth Glyn on voice and guitar, Rowan Rheingans on backing vocals, Dylan Fowler on guitar and kantele, Jordan Price-Williams on acoustic bass, Mark O’Connor on drums, Patrick Rimes on violin and Gillian Stevens on violin.
This is the second nomination for Gwyneth Glyn whose collaboration Ghazalaw, with Indian ghazal singer Tauseef Akhtar, was nominated for a Folk Award in 2016 (Best Traditional Track for Moliannwn from their eponymous album Ghazalaw).
Gwyneth Glyn will be supporting Catrin Finch and Seckou Keita in Y Tabernacl, Machynlleth on 26 April.
