Madam,
I fully support Meryl Gover in the points she raises (Toilet closures threaten Blue Flag). How can lacking a basic facility on the front at Tywyn be acceptable, desirable or exemplary?
I have written many times about the losses of conveniences here, but Meryl is fully correct in raising the difference a Blue Flag makes to any resort.
I have emphasised, too, that losses mean we are being pushed to primitive. This is no way to encourage visitors or extol the fact of tourism being above farming here, now.
Broadly, we have been told we have been living above our means, hence the cut-backs being of the level of severity we are experiencing. I fail to see it when we have supported how many wars since the end of the Second World War? We also have 650 MPs in the House of Commons, and the hundreds of members in the House of Lords, far and away beyond our wishes or needs.
We have known nothing but losses in our time here, and empty windows are becoming a common factor along Tywyn High Street, which tells its own story.
Nevertheless, visitors are needed in our area and making them welcome and offering suitable provision must be a priority.
Yours etc,
Jill Baxter, Abergynolwyn.
