SKATEBOARDERS are calling on the council to tackle the “shocking” state of Aberystwyth skatepark, which they say has become an “eyesore” and a “hazard” to those who use it.
A Facebook group called ‘Aberystwyth Skate Park Revamp’ sprung up last month, with the page’s creator, Josh Thompson, calling on the council to carry out some basic maintenance work, such as installing litter bins, repairing ramps and surface damage, and cutting overgrown weeds.
The future of the Parc Kronberg skatepark is still up in the air as Aberystwyth Town Council awaits the outcome of an application for Big Lottery funding for the construction of a new £500,000 skatepark and community area.
Mr Thompson told the Cambrian News: “I just want them to do some general maintenance and put a bin down there. I walk through the park on the way to work every morning, and see three bins, while if you go down the skatepark, there is not one. There isn’t even one on the path.
“It looks so untidy. I put black bags down there the other day and kids do use them. The ramps are structurally sound, although there are a few loose bolts here and there.
“There are also bushes growing out from under the ramps. I even went out and bought some garden shears the other day and cut some down myself. There are a few holes in the floor. I’m not a ground worker, but it would just take a bit of tarmac to fix it. These problems wouldn’t cost a lot of money to sort out, it just needs a little bit of funding.”
