An Aberystwyth woman whose father has vascular dementia is hoping to raise more than £3,500 for the Alzheimer’s Society by holding a series of events during 2019.
Once a keen golfer and cricketer, Alan Prytherch developed dementia several years ago and now lives in Hafan y Waun home in Aberystwyth.
With the support of her three sisters and family, his daughter Anna is organising a series of fundraising events for dementia research.
“Dementia is a cruel disease, as anyone who knows someone suffering from the illness will testify,” Anna said.
“Sadly, our father is one of around 225,000 people who develop vascular dementia every year and this figure is expected to rise significantly over the next few years.
“With the help of my sisters and family, I’m raising money for the Alzheimer’s Society to tackle dementia by improving the lives of the people who suffer from the disease today and to try to find a cure for those who may suffer in the future.”
On Saturday, 1 June, a Summer Ball for the Alzheimer’s Society will be held in the Marine Hotel with a two-course meal, disco and live music from local band Jesse’s Sister.
Tickets cost £25 each and are available from the Marine Hotel or Lloyd Herbert and Jones estate agents, or by ringing 07815 746850.
