Question marks hang over the future of a family centre which has grown into a well-used support service in the Lampeter area over the past two years.
Situated at Ganolfan Dulais, Lampeter Family Centre is having to find a new home due to the impending demolition of its current base as part of a major refurbishment.
While nothing has been confirmed yet, the Cambrian News understands the charity is looking to relocate to the Lampeter Church House.
The centre, which offers a free service five days a week to all families with children under 11, has now organised a fundraising drive to bring their mooted temporary home up to scratch.
Co-ordinator Elin Vaughan-Miles said they faced a deadline of 1 September to vacate their current Pontfaen Road premises, so time was short.
“We are committed to providing a secure, homely and inviting environment for our families and carers and, with help from the community, our new home will become the safe haven it needs to be,” she added.
Local county councillor Hag Harris said that while Tai Ceredigion’s new development of Canolfan Dulais was welcome it represented a “challenge” for some tenants.
“We as staff and trustees of the Lampeter Family Centre are optimistic that we will shortly be able to announce that we have secured a new home,” he added.
“This will necessitate investment and building work to make our new home fit for purpose. Time is short as we have to complete our move by 1 September.
“If any individual, organisation or group can offer financial or other support we would be very grateful. Lampeter Family Centre makes a massive, positive contribution to the wellbeing of families in our town.”
If you are able to offer help of any kind, the centre can be contacted on 01570 423847 or at [email protected]
