A MAN who was left homeless for over a year after the wall of his cottage near Aberystwyth was destroyed when it was hit by a car, has slammed the jail term the driver of the vehicle has received.

Ricafort Gamboa, 25, of Bolton, was jailed for four years at Swansea Crown Court for causing death by dangerous driving in the incident in the early hours of Friday, 15 July 2016, when he was driving at 100mph through Chancery on the A487.

Gamboa’s Citroën C3 careered off the road and smashed through the living room of Paul Davies’ Grade II listed cottage, Glenview, leaving a gaping hole in the 16-inch-thick solid stone.

Since the smash, Mr Davies has been living in accommodation in south Wales where he works as a bus driver – while delays in rebuilding his home hampered attempts to move back in.

Now, 13 months on, repairs have been completed and he will finally move back home next week.

Following Gamboa’s sentencing on Friday – which will mean, in all likelihood, that he will only serve two years – Mr Davies said: “From what I have seen about the speed he was doing, I do think the sentence is too lenient.

“For a person to be driving anywhere on the A487 at 100mph is totally irresponsible and this has led to a young 18-year-old kid losing his life and another being jailed and having to live with what he has done for the rest of his life.”

Finally able to move back into his home over a year after the crash, Mr Davies told the Cambrian News that his “life was torn apart” by the incident, and was part of the “worst 13 months” of his life – which included becoming very ill and missing three months of work, and the loss of his mother to cancer.
