The show – or rather screening – will go on at Tywyn’s Magic Lantern Cinema thanks to kind-hearted fundraisers, including celebrities, who have stepped in to save the venue.
The team at the Magic Lantern launched a fundraising campaign in July when it was discovered an important part of their projector was in need of replacing.
If the money couldn’t be found, the venue would have to close its doors, but the fundraising campaign was supported by Hollywood actors Michael Sheen and Taron Egerton, and many more who have helped the venue reach its £18,000 target.
Commenting on the problem that sparked the campaign, Mark Bond, a cinema committee member, said: “It was a brand new projector in which a fault developed. We were only going to have a short period of use out of it.
“People in the online community said that the kind of projector we had should have lasted 20,000 hours, however, it lasted for less than half that time.
Annie Grundy, the general manager of the cinema, has spoken of the relief at reaching the fundraising goal.
“It was amazing,” she said. “The wave of support was unbelievable. It’s great to have what we do be appreciated.
“I’d just want to say a massive thank you to everyone for their support.”
