The manager of a Gwynedd Council scheme to help people with dementia has been nominated in the ‘Trailblazer of the Year’ category of the annual Alzheimer’s Society Dementia Friendly Awards.
Emma Quaeck from the council’s DementiaGO scheme is hoping to attend the ceremony which will be held in London at the end of this month.
Launched in 2013, the awards celebrate and showcase the achievements of individuals, groups and organisations across the UK who have led the way on creating dementia-friendly communities and improving the lives of everybody affected by dementia.
The ‘Trailblazer of the Year’ award, which Emma has been nominated for, recognises individuals, communities, businesses and groups that have tried something new or innovative to include people affected by dementia and improve their experiences.
Emma said of the nomination: “It is certainly an honour to have been nominated for this award which recognises the positive steps we have been making here in Gwynedd in supporting people living with dementia and their families and carers.
“The DementiaGo programme offers physical activity sessions in a safe and understanding environment for people living with dementia and their carers.
“I would like to thank everyone who has been involved with the DementiaGO project over the years, and am looking forward to continue to find innovative activities for the benefit of those that are living with dementia.”
Cllr Dafydd Meurig, Gwynedd Council’s Cabinet Member for Adults, Health and Wellbeing, said: “This is a significant achievement which reflects the important and innovative work the DementiaGO scheme is doing here in Gwynedd.”
