THE host for the Powys Business Awards ceremony being held on 30 September has been announced as TV’s favourite Welsh weatherman, Derek Brockway.
The BBC presenter’s interest in the weather began as a young boy growing up in Barry during the long, hot summer of 1976. He went on to join the Met Office, and in 1995 Derek moved to London to work in the world of television, preparing the ITV National Weather and Channel 4 weather. He has also broadcast on GMTV’s The Sunday Programme.
In 1997 he joined BBC Wales Today, where he has been the lead weather forecaster for over 13 years. As well as broadcasting the lunchtime, evening and late TV weather forecasts, he also presents regular weather bulletins on BBC Radio Wales.
Derek has had a lifetime fascination with the weather and has presented a number of TV shows including Derek’s Welsh Weather and Weatherman Walking. Derek has added yet another string to his bow with the publication of four books - two walking books published by Aberystwyth-based Y Lolfa and a children’s book by Gomer called Duck and Starfish.
As a keen walker, Derek is looking forward to spending some time in Brecon as this year’s awards dinner takes place at the Infantry Battle School, Dering Lines, in Brecon and tickets can be purchased via the website.
