An Aberystwyth playwright is appealing to the public for support to save a unique home for the elderly.
Dr Lucy Gough wants to fight for the future of Jasper House on Great Darkgate Street, which provides residents with their own private rooms from which they can come and go, as well as food, communal areas and company in the centre of town.
Dr Gough’s 85-year-old mother Christine has lived at the house for two-and-a-half years but she and the other residents have been told by owners Abbeyfield that it will have to close and they have just two months to find alternative accommodation.
Appealing to the public for help, Dr Gough, who has written for TV, radio and theatre, said she was desperate to save the house for her mother and for generations to come.
She said: “This is a unique place for our elderly where they can live independently, get out of the house and go in to town, but also receive meals and make friends with the other residents.
“I would love to hear from anyone who can offer me support and advice to save Jasper House.
“I would like to set up a committee to explore fundraising opportunities and grants.”
