Madam,

It is difficult to think of a more compelling argument for reopening the Aberystwyth to Carmarthen railway line than Elin Jones’ description of her nightmare journey by bus from Aberaeron to Cardiff.

Cold, uncomfortable, steamed-up windows, no toilet facilities and, at times, seemingly frightening; the only thing Elin failed to mention was the ever-present threat of travel sickness on the twisting roads.

How much more comfortable would have been a short road journey to a railway station in Lampeter, then southwards by train to Carmarthen and onwards to Cardiff.

A warm carriage, with a trolley serving tea and coffee, toilets to hand, and wifi connections should you want to plug in your laptop or mobile phone; alternatively, there would be the opportunity to read in comfort, or simply enjoy the views of the west Wales countryside. It’s a no-brainer, isn’t it?

Yours etc,

Mike Walker, Traws Link Cymru, West Wales Rail Campaign.
