A CARAVAN formerly used as a diner on the main road into Machynlleth is in a “very dilapidated state” and should be removed, a Machynlleth councillor has insisted.
The static caravan is still in a layby on the A487 on the approach to the town, between Derwenlas and Machynlleth, but has been vandalised and covered in graffiti. There have also been claims it has been used for drug-taking.
Machynlleth Town Council received a letter from a local resident urging that action be taken to remove the caravan, which has not been used for several years.
But while county councillor Michael Williams supported the letter, he said that the caravan is actually in Cadfarch Community Council’s area.
Cllr Williams, though, said he had been in discussions with the Trunk Road Agency about getting the caravan removed from the layby, saying it did not make a good impression on a main route into Machynlleth.
He said: “It is in a very dilapidated state and it does need to be removed.
“I know that people have found syringes in the caravan, which has raised some concern and is not what we want to see.”
