THE council should reveal when it is to build a new path for disabled residents who have been forced onto a busy road in their wheelchairs, a campaigner has said.
Residents of Ger-y-ddôl, the purpose-built disabled bungalows next to Min-y-ddôl, Penparcau, were told in June that they would get a new pavement in this financial year, but with no start date given for the works.
This came after it was revealed in the Cambrian News in November that disabled residents Denise Sepulveda and Julie Davies, were dicing with death to access St Brieuc path, which allows them easy access to nearby shops and the town.
Julie and Denise say they cannot even use the footpath on the opposite side of the road because the only dropped kerbs available to them are on a steep incline of the adjacent Third Avenue.
The neighbours also revealed were also being abused by motorists after being forced to use the road along Fifth Avenue and Min-y-ddôl.
The campaign for a path, which has been led by Min-y-ddôl resident Roger Owen, has now received the backing of Penparcau councillor Lloyd Edwards.
Mr Owen told the Cambrian News it was imperative to have a start date for the works from the council, especially with the days already shortening.
A Ceredigion County Council spokesperson said: “The provision of a new footway at this location is programmed for 2017-18.
“There is no definite date that can be given at this time.
“Budgets are set at the beginning of the financial year and it is not possible to programme all works for the summer period.
“We will endeavour to carry out the work as soon as it is practicable.”
