Madam,
I am disappointed, to say the least, that the compost bins have been removed from Machynlleth.
As with the closure of Potters Yard, the consequences will be fly-tipping. Also, a mattress was found in one of the bins. Irresponsible, yes, but people do get desperate when facilities are missing.
As global warming is also a big issue, the many car journeys will increase because taking compost to other towns is the only alternative. But their councils and ratepayers should not be expected to take it.
A member of my family from Leeds told me that their council processed the collection themselves. When it matured into soil, they bagged it and sold it. Apparently the final product was to a very high standard and a good source of income. Worth a try.
Yours etc, June Crossley, Machynlleth.
