MACHYNLLETH Town Council has said it is “disappointed” by a Powys council decision not to pursue handing powers to deal with dog fouling to PCSOs.

Dyfed-Powys Police and Crime Commissioner Christopher Salmon made an offer earlier this year that PCSOs be authorised to issue Fixed Penalty Notices for dog fouling, but Powys had to turn down the offer after other councils did not jump on board.

The Dyfed-Powys Police Authority said it will not support one local authority pursuing PCSOs issuing Fixed Penalty Notices unless a “regional approach is taken”.

Cllr Michael Williams told fellow members at a Machynlleth town council meeting last week: “It is a real disappointment that the county council is not pursuing this.

“We all know how much of an issue it is.

“It is disppointing that PCSOs won’t be used to carry out enforcement.”
