Memories of a legendary 1970s Aberystwyth gig by one of Britain’s greatest ever bands are being sought by an author compiling a history of Led Zeppelin.

The band, one of the most successful, innovative, and influential rock groups in history, played in Aberystwyth at the old King’s Hall near the seafront on 16 January 1973.

They performed songs including Rock and Roll, Over the Hills and Far Away, Black Dog, Misty Mountain Hop, Since I’ve Been Loving You, Dancing Days, Bron-yr-Aur Stomp, The Song Remains the Same, Rain Song, Dazed and Confused, Stairway to Heaven, and Whole Lotta Love.

The bootleg Led Zeppelin album Strange Affinity British Tour 1972/73 features songs recorded during the King’s Hall concert.

Author Richard Houghton, who has written a series of remembrances of major gigs and tours for his The Day I Was There series including Jimi Hendrix, The Rolling Stones and The Beatles, wants people to get in touch with their memories of the gig.

“Fifty years ago this month Led Zeppelin first performed live in a career that saw them become one of the biggest rock bands on the planet,” he said.

“I am interested in hearing from anyone who saw their appearance at Aberystwyth’s King’s Hall on 16 January 1973 and who would be willing to contribute their memories to help me compile a people’s history of the band.”

Richard can be contacted via email at [email protected] or via post at 1 Totnes Road, Manchester M21 8XF.
