A group is producing a documentary to “showcase what an amazing place and community Penparcau is”.
Penparcau Local Conversations, which is part of Penparcau Community Forum, started filming for the “very uplifting” documentary with personal testimonies from residents both young and old who live in the village, on 22 April.
The documentary is being produced by Penparcau resident Amy Daniels, who is a part of the Forum’s Local Conversations Steering group.
Clare Jackson, conversations officer for the forum, said: “The documentary is going to be about the people of Penparcau and the place.
“It is going to showcase what an amazing place and community Penparcau is.
“It will be a very uplifting documentary with personal testimonies from residents young and old who live here.
“It will also be centring on what make us proud to be in Penparcau to help remove the stigma which is shown at times to this place.
“There will also be an underlying message regarding services in Penparcau and campaigns like state-of-the-park.
“The residents do feel at times Penparcau is an afterthought when it comes to having investment back into the place, so this is to show we have a voice, we are proud to live here and we have the most amazing people in our community.”
Clare added: “We have, to date, interviewed four residents and we interview the headmaster from the local school and George Barratt, one of the original founders of communities first in Penparcau, this week.
“We are also hoping to get the old Penparcau Football team together with the new one and have the players engage on camera together.
“We have over 20 more interviews to do and we cannot accommodate the amount of requests we are doing so we are just going with it and see how much filming we can do.
“The interest and positive feedback from the community has been fantastic and we are very confident this documentary is going have a very positive impact on the community and surrounding area.”
The main priorities of the steering group are the environment, young people and education and skills, and members meet once a month to discuss these priorities, with the vision to improve the health and social inequalities in Penparcau.
In a Facebook post, Penparcau Local Conversations said: “Penparcau Local Conversations are feeling very excited today with the start of filming for a documentary that focuses on the wonderful people of Penparcau and the place we live.
“Supported by Penparcau Community Forum and People’s Health Trust we want to capture what makes Penparcau the wonderful place it is and the characters of the village.
“All filming follows Covid regulations.”
