A DOLGELLAU town councillor has called on people to work together in an effort to tackle the problem of dog waste in the town.

Cllr Linda Morgan has been involved in campaigns in the past to address the issue which, according to her, is being caused by a “small minority” of dog owners.

Cllr Morgan said: “It has been an ongoing problem for years. With coronavirus, this has become worse.

“I would say it’s the worst it has been in Dolgellau.

“There have been a few campaigns in the past to tackle the problem. More bins and posters have been placed around the town.

“Lombard Street is an issue; one man had dog mess right outside his door recently.

“I don’t understand why dog owners don’t pick the mess up.

“The small minority of dog owners not picking up after their dogs are ignoring the bags and bins that are available around the town.”

Cllr Morgan added: “On the Marion there are bins at either end of the path. However, people have been bagging up the mess and hanging it in the trees.

“This is unacceptable behaviour from the small minority.

“If we knew who were not cleaning up after their dogs, they could be addressed.

“That’s why we need the public to help out.

“The wardens need more information on who is responsible so they can advise them.

“We need to work together to solve this problem. People with information should report it to the wardens.

“We live in a beautiful town, and we need to keep it this way.

“Dolgellau’s twin town, Guérande is immaculate. This is how Dolgellau should be.”
