A BRYNCRUG resident is one of several who have started of highlighting the issue of dog mess in the village using chalk.
Rachel Warne (pictured) has started to use chalk spray on any dog mess in the area to ‘highlight’ it in a bid to prick the conscience of offending dog owners.
Since starting doing this, she has received messages of support from people elsewhere who say they will try the same idea in their area.
Rachel said: “During the first lockdown, when out on walks around Bryncrug, we would see dog mess bags hanging in trees and fences. This infuriated a few village residents and led to many a rant on social media.
“Recently Beth Lawton, who is a councillor, wrote on Facebook about how disgusted she was to find mess all over the pavement in the village. She said that she had needed to pick it up herself as it made walking on the pavement very difficult.
“There were lots of comments about how disgusted people were but little action. I Googled ‘effective dog mess campaigns’ and found the link to the article included in the Facebook post. I asked if anyone would help me and several people volunteered.”
Cllr Beth Lawton, who represents Bryncrug and Llanfihangel, said: “I went for a walk and there was mess right across the path. People need to walk on the road to get around it. For those with pushchairs and wheelchairs, they would need to go through it. I cleaned it up and then I posted on social media. Rachel found this new method and we’ve given it a go. We’ve noticed a difference. There’s no excuse to leave dog mess across a path.”
