Pilgrimage

AN HISTORIC pilgrimage is taking place this weekend to a 12th Century abbey in Meirionnydd.Scores of people are expected to make the two-mile trek from Dolgellau to Cymer Abbey, Llanelltyd – the remains of the simple abbey church, founded in 1198 by Maredudd ap Cynan for the Cistercian order.The pilgrimage starts at 11am on Sunday, 15 May, at the Marian Mawr car park with Pentecost celebration communion occurring at St Illtyd’s church (adjacent to the ruins of Cymer Abbey) at 12pm.All those that attend are encouraged to bring a picnic lunch.For more information, please call Al-lan Barnes on 01341 450631.

Cader Idris Race

THIS year’s Cader Idris Race is sold out, with 300 pre-enrty runners from around the UK.This is the first time the race has been fully booked three weeks in advance.The date for this year’s race is Saturday, 21 May, with a start time of 1pm for the main race, which is being sponsored by The Royal Ship Hotel of Dolgellau. The junior races are sponsored by JGS Electrical, and these races will be starting at 11am onwards.All competitors can register at the Free Library in Eldon Square Dolgellau from 10am onwards.

Ysbyty Cymuned Dolgellau a Bermo

The Health and Social Care department continues to work closely with the Dolgellau Hospital and have recently organised an event to advise students/staff on the dangers of the sun and how to protect themselves.To coincide with the UK BAD (British Association of Dermatologist) college tutor Barbara Morgan organised a fund-raising event on Sun Awareness with the Health and Social Care Students participating in handing out leaflets and sample lotions.Additionally, Dolgellau hospital’s Steven Evans-Jones, recently acknowledged as the UK’s finest health care assistant, was on hand to offer medical advice.Raffle donations have kindly been received from Tafarn y Cader and TH Roberts, Dolgellau; Tal-y-Don, Barmouth; Morfa Stores, Harlech and Cwtchi Coo Photography, Tywyn.Money raised will be donated to Cancer Support.
