Air ambulance

CONSIDERATE students at Coleg Meirion Dwyfor have raised a substantial sum for Wales Air Ambulance.Students from the Dolgellau campus presented a cheque to the helicopter charity for £657.50.The academics arranged a variety of events to raise money for the charity with student union president and A-level student Steff Chambers particularly influential in organising several of the fund-raisers, not least a very successful Variety Christmas Show.Sue Keys from Wales Air Ambulance attended the presentation at Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor and was very grateful for the contribution. She said: “Wales air Ambulance needs to raise £6 million every year to operate our service. Each mission on average costs £1,500. “The amount that Steff and the students have raised for us is fan-tastic and we are very grateful for their hard work. “The money raised will go towards helping one of our missions.”

Steff Chambers added: “I’m very proud of what we’ve managed to raise for Wales Air Ambulance. “The students and I arranged a lot of fund-raising activities for this worthy cause and we’re glad that the money we’ve raised will help their vital work.”

Rugby awards

DOLGELLAU RFC junior girls had quite a surprise after their annual presentation at the Marian Club last Friday evening. A fun ‘kangoroo’ court was held as punishment for the girls’ misdemeanours during the season. Welsh International winger, Elen Evans, was on hand as Judge Rinder to dish out the sentences to the vari-ous offenders. As well as collecting the annual players of the year awards, the girls and some parents were charged with numerous club offences which they had committed throughout the season. All were found guilty beyond reasonable doubt (surprise, surprise) and thrown in the clubhouse ‘scrum’ by coaches and Court Police Joanne Roberts and Ceris Davies. Said Judge Elen: “Dolgellau Rugby Club will not tolerate such behaviour and the defendants should think themselves lucky to get the lenient sentences they have.”On a brighter note, the awards were as follows: Under 13s player of the year – Glesni Jones; player of the year – Glesni Jones; most improved – Llio Rob-erts; players’ player – Els Jones (not present); coaches’ award – Ffion Gittins.Under 15s: Player of the year – Catrin Williams; most improved – Malen Meredydd (not present); players’ player – Sarah James; coaches’ award 1 – Kerry Morris; coaches award 2 – Erain Edward.
