Volunteers who travelled from Pwllheli to Romania to donate food and blankets to a dog shelter have turned their attention to more animals in need.

Last year, Georgina Jones appealed to the public for donations and her husband, Dafyn Jones, and their friend Liz Campbell drove to the Teddy Alex Shelter in Romania with items and money donated from all over North Wales.

The money raised led to the creation of a large wooden building for cats and dry storage.

The shelter is now also trying to raise money for a heat plant which does not rely on electricity, as Romania suffers from long power cuts in the winter.

Georgina has now set up a JustGiving page to raise more money.

She said: “We are asking people to sponsor a dog with a one-off donation of £30 per dog. It is slow this time of year, but that is when they need it most.

“We are still collecting duvets and towels as a local charity Snowdonia Animal Rescue are desperate for them and any that couldn’t fit in the van to Romania last time went to them.”
