Dyffryn and Talybont Gardening Club

THE JANUARY meeting, held in the church hall on Monday, 11 January, took the form of a very informative, entertaining and increasingly competitive quiz night. Thirty-two members and guests were present, organised into teams of four or five.Questions in eight categories covered topics such as vegetables, trees and shrubs, fruit, flowers and identification of seeds. So animated was the discussion between teams around answers that there was no time for two further topics, namely Winter and the mixed bag round.Questions were formulated by the chairperson, Karen Hall, and president, Guy Lloyd, who, sadly, was unable attend. In his absence, Kate Santon was a very proficient quizmaster – or mistress!Raffle prizes were won by Kate Santon, Anita Gatehouse, Glenys Lawson and Sue Hopwood.Prior to the quiz, the chair thanked all for their contributions to an enjoyable Christmas party and reminded members of the Spring Show on Monday, 21 March. This will be followed by a cheese and wine evening, during which members will have the opportunity to exchange seeds and young plants.Members will meet for Sunday lunch at 1957 Restaurant in Talybont on 24 January at noon. The 8 February meeting will be Guy Lloyd’s talk on demonstrating garden practices.
