AN Aberystwyth secondary school has closed its doors this morning - with children left ’stranded’ outside.

Buses arrived at Ysgol Gyfun Penweddig this morning with pupils then told that the school was closed for cleaning, with school children left outside trying to make arrangements to go home.

One parent, Sandra Mason, said: "There was no forewarning. My daughter caught the bus to school this morning only to turn up and find the front door closed and she and all the other pupils have been left stranded there.

"They should have told parents before children arrived at school. I’m spitting chips."

A spokesperson for Ceredigion County Council said: "The Council can confirm that Ysgol Penweddig is closed today (Wednesday) for precautionary measures.

"No member of staff at the school has Coronavirus (Covid-19). However, as a member of staff has exhibited symptoms, an instruction has been made to close the school today, Wednesday 18 March, for a comprehensive clean-up.

"The children’s school is due to re-open on Thursday 19 March."
