The official opening of a ‘much-anticipated’ £10m school in Bala has taken place.

Ysgol Godre’r Berwyn was officially opened by Gwynedd Council chairman Cllr Edgar Wyn Owen during a ceremony on Friday, 8 November.

The school, which received a £10.27m investment, joint-funded by the Welsh Government and Gwynedd Council, as part of the 21st Century Schools Scheme, has been open since September, with the official ceremony taking place earlier this month.

Speaking about the school, Cllr Cemlyn Williams, Gwynedd Council’s Cabinet member for education said: “There has been much anticipation in the Bala area for this important project and the significant investment in the children’s education. It is great to see that the children and teachers are making the most of the new school.

“It is clear that the pupils of Ysgol Godre’r Berwyn are thoroughly enjoying the school and it was great to see that they’re benefiting from the fantastic resources available at the campus.

“After opening its doors in September, the learning environment for the children in the area has significantly improved with additional resources and facilities on what is a modern site that provides a 21st century learning environment.”

Ysgol Godre’r Berwyn headteacher Bethan Emyr Jones added: “This is a very exciting time. I am delighted to see the official opening of Ysgol Godre’r Berwyn.

“The pupils and staff have already settled into the new system, the school has a happy atmosphere and ethos, and it is clear that the all-age school is working.

“Our aim is to develop a school that puts children first, respecting and extending each individual to reach their full potential. This in turn will help develop principled, enterprising and ambitious young people who will always give their best.

“As a community school, we will make sure that the building offers something for everyone.”
