EDUCATION chiefs have refused to confirm or deny reports that teaching jobs have been lost at Lampeter’s Ysgol Bro Pedr.
The 1,049-pupil secondary, one of the first for 3-19 year olds in Wales, was established through the merger of Ysgol Gynradd Ffynnonbedr and Ysgol Gyfun Llanbedr Pont Steffan.
Back in December the school’s performance was rated as “good” by Estyn inspectors in their latest report.
But the Cambrian News has been told that three teachers have recently lost their jobs at the flagship Ceredigion school.
A source said: “The fact jobs are being lost suggests there are budget issues.”
A Ceredigion County Council spokesman said officers were currently working closely with all Ceredigion school headteachers and governing bodies as they formulated their spending plans for 2017-18.
“Given that this work is ongoing and subject to significant changes over the spring and summer terms, it would not be appropriate to comment on an individual school at this time,” he added.
