ABERYSTWYTH-BASED detective series Hinterland is now being used to teach people Welsh.

The National Centre for Learning Welsh has established a partnership with S4C by using the popular series in Welsh classes across Wales.

A Welsh lesson has been designed for learners who have attained the Advanced Level in Welsh, to coincide with the third series of the show, which is shown every Sunday night at 9pm, and every Friday at 10.30pm on S4C.

The aim of the lesson is to inspire learners to discuss, learn new vocabulary and enjoy the detective series at the same time.

The lesson includes audio and video clips, exercises, and notes for tutors, and is available to all providers of the centre, which run Welsh courses all over Wales.

According to Helen Prosser, strategic director of the centre: “The aim of this lesson is to introduce something exciting and contemporary for learners in the classroom.

“We work closely with S4C, and look forward to developing the partnership, and showcase the wealth of resources and programs they have available.

“It’s a valuable resource for those learning Welsh.

“We take pride in the fact that we have the ability to support tutors by providing them with resources for the classroom. We plan to introduce a series of lessons this year, focusing on encouraging learners to discuss what is happening in contemporary Wales.”
