AN Aberystwyth primary school has received the highest rating possible in all areas in a recent inspection.
Ysgol Gymraeg, which is the biggest primary school in Ceredigion with just over 400 pupils, has been praised in an Estyn report.
Inspectors praised the education provided, as well as staff leadership and performance and the care, support and guidance offered to pupils.
The inspection, which took place in November, rated the school as excellent, the highest rating, in each category considered, praising headteacher Clive Williams and his staff for the education provided and support for pupils.
The report says: “During their time at the school, nearly all pupils make very strong progress. They perform at levels that at least correspond to those that are expected, and over half exceed this consistently.
“The pupil’s voice is important and is respected throughout the school. As a result, standards of wellbeing and nearly all pupils’ attitudes towards learning are strong.
“The quality of teaching and learning experiences is very high, and support to ensure pupils’ wellbeing is an exceptional feature.
“The school is led very effectively by a confident and creative headteacher, and the senior management team supports him conscientiously, and ensure that the school provides education that is consistently of a very high quality and is based on maintaining and raising standards.”
