THE closure of Llandysul Library would be “yet another nail in the coffin” for the town, angry locals have claimed.
Expressing dismay at the threat of closure, townspeople say it would be a further example of how local services have been eroded.
“There will be absolute outrage if Llandysul does indeed lose its library,” John Hughes-Owen, a regular library-user, told the Cambrian News.
“It’s a well-used facility, the footfall is amazing and its not just used by adults but by many children as well.
“It also offers the free use of computers so it’s a lifeline for so many people in the local community and would obviously be a significant loss if it goes.”
There will be a protest outside the council offices on 26 November at 9.30am against the closure of Llandysul’s library.
Mr Hughes-Owen, who said he had first heard of the plans from library staff, said it was feared the Llandysul facility was “more vulnerable” than those in other areas.
“They’re not going to axe Aberaeron, because all the money coming into the county goes into its three main centres of Aberystwyth, Aberaeron and Cardigan,” he said.
“So many of Llandysul’s services have already gone and the post office is under threat. All this is just decimating the community.
“We seem to get nothing for our rates these days and hardly ever see a policeman.”
