YOUNGSTERS who will be attending Llandysul’s new Ysgol Bro Teifi have given the first purpose-built 3-19 school in Wales an unqualified thumbs-up ahead of its official opening in September.

The flagship £30m project – Ceredigion County Council’s largest-ever single capital outlay – will be the workplace of 48 teachers, a similar number of support staff and around 750 pupils.

Among them will be a group of senior prefects from Ysgol Dyffryn Teifi, who last week received a guided tour of their new school ahead of next Wednesday’s open day.

“I think it’s going to be a better environment for us,” student Lois Alwyn told the Cambrian News. “If children are going to be happier, it will make more want to come back to sixth form.

“The locker system where pupils will be able to keep their stuff will make everyone feel safer. I just can’t wait to come here!”

Ysgol Bro Teifi headteacher, Robert Jenkins, who formerly taught in his home town of Cardigan, said he was also looking forward to the start of the new term on 5 September.

“Taking charge of a school such as this is a huge honour and privilege as well as being a big responsibility,” he said.

“But the teamwork that has come together during the past year has been fantastic and the entire local community have fully embraced the whole 3-19 concept.”
