THE headteacher of Pen­glais School is leaving after less than four years in the job, the Cambrian News can reveal.

Matthew Brown, who was app­ointed as head of the county’s largest high school in 2012, this week confirmed he is to step down from the role after being successful in his application for the job of head of learning services at Ceredigion County Council.

Speaking to the Cambrian News, Mr Brown said he was “very pleased” with the appointment and thanked pupils, staff and parents for their support.

He said: “I am very pleased to have been appointed to this key role within education.

“It has been a pleasure and a privilege to lead and teach at Penglais school.

“The pupils and staff have made the time I have spent at Penglais very special and I am hugely grateful for the support received from parents.

“My new role as head of the learning services presents an exciting opportunity to develop education further.

“I am looking forward to leading education and providing support to all schools across Ceredigion.”
