EDUCATION in west Wales is ‘A1’ according to last Thursday’s A-level examination results, indicating that high standards are being achieved in local schools.
A* - A grades were achieved by 20 per cent of Ceredigion pupils with over 75 per cent getting A*- C grades.
Across the board, Ceredigion students achieved a pass (A*-E) rate of 98.1 cent, marginally better than the Welsh average of 97.7 per cent.
Barry Rees, Ceredigion County Council’s strategic director for learning and partnerships, described the results as “the well-deserved outcome of the hard work of students and their teachers along with the invaluable support of their families”.
He added: “These achievements must once again be placed in the context of the very high proportion of learners in Ceredigion who choose to stay in school to study in the sixth form.”
His views were echoed by Cllr Catrin Miles, Cabinet member with responsibility for learning services.
“Whatever path our sixth-form students choose to take from now, I wish them well for the future,” she said.
“Schools must be congratulated on their success in attaining high standards whilst managing further curriculum and assessment changes.”
