Ysgol Plascrug in Aberystwyth is celebrating after securing a certificate for healthy living.

The school has achieved its third re-verification for the Welsh Network of Healthy Schools Scheme National Quality Award.

Plascrug was the first Ceredigion school to achieve this award from the Welsh Government in December 2012 and has been involved since the beginning of the scheme in 2000 working through all seven action areas: mental and emotional health and wellbeing, food and fitness, environment, hygiene, substances, personal development and relationships and safety.

Headteacher Menna Sweeney, who retired at the end of last term, led Healthy Schools work in the school during this time and health and wellbeing is at the heart of everything the school does.

One aim of the scheme is that schools “think health” across curricular work, extra-curricular activities and in its contact with parents, governors and the wider community.

Plascrug is a pioneer school working with other schools across Wales in the development of the Health and Wellbeing Area of Learning and Experience in Curriculum for Wales 2022 and the Healthy Schools work has directly contributed to this.
