MEMBERS of Llandysul Women’s Institute wore the colours of the suffragette movement as they joined fellow protesters in a demonstration against the proposed closure of Llandysul Library outside the entrance of Ceredigion County Council offices in Aberaeron last week.
As the protest was staged, members of the county council’s Cabinet were holding a special meeting in the council chamber to decide on the library’s fate.
Protesters said they felt it was important to continue to let councillors know that the closure of Llandysul Library was “not an option” and that other ways of saving money need to be found.
One of the protesters, John Davies, had a simple message for councillors as they arrived: “Enough is enough,” he said. “Why Llandysul again? And what is next to close?”
Another protester, Graham Lewis, pledged that a further demonstration would be staged outside the next Cabinet meeting on 12 January.
While people in Lampeter were celebrating the opening of their new-look library, Lesley Parker, of Llandysul and District Local History Society, is urging people to sign their petition, copies of which are in shops around Llandysul and Pont-Tyweli as well as online at Change.org.
Ceredigion County Council is currently holding a consultation about the future of Llandysul, Cardigan and mobile libraries in Ceredigion, which lasts until 4 January.
