A-LEVEL students at Aberystwyth’s secondary schools are again at the top of the class after excellent exam results.
Students at Ysgol Penweddig and Penglais School have been congratulated by school leaders after results that again helped Ceredigion schools perform better than the Welsh average.
Results at Ysgol Penweddig saw a pass rate of 99 per cent with 38 per cent of all results either A* or A leading headteacher Gwenallt Llwyd Ifan to praise students and staff for their hard work.
Mr Ifan said: “Once again Penweddig pupils have achieved great success building upon the outstanding results gained last year which placed Penweddig results amongst the best throughout Wales.
There was also success at Penglais School where 34 per cent of all grades achieved were either A* or A and 77 per cent were A* to C grades.
Headteacher Mair Hughes said: “Congratulations to all students and we wish them all the very best in their future."
A-level students in the Dyfi Valley have also been congratulated after another successful year for A-level results at Machynlleth’s Ysgol Bro Hyddgen and Llanidloes High School.
Ysgol Bro Hyddgen saw a range of subjects have a 100 per cent pass rate between A* and C, and almost 90 per cent of all results in Llanidloes High School between A and C.
Ysgol Bro Hyddgen headteacher Dafydd Jones praised the hard work of both students and staff at the school for the successful results with 100 per cent A* to C pass rates in Welsh, French, PE, religious education, music, geography and business studies, and 100 per cent success in vocational subjects with 50 per cent of the results being Distinction Star.
Daniel Owen, headteacher at Llanidloes High School, paid tribute to students and staff for their efforts and said everyone at the school was thrilled with the good results.
He said: “We are delighted with our students’ splendid results this year and warmly congratulate them on their success.
“Nearly 90 per cent of all grades achieved by our students were at A* to C, which is an exceptional testimony to students’ hard work and the high quality of teaching at the school.”
Across Ceredigion as a whole, more than a quarter of grades were either A* or A with 77 per cent of entries receiving A* to C grades and an overall pass rate of 98 per cent.
This year’s results saw a six per cent increase in those achieving A* or A grades.
Across Powys, just over a fifth of all results were either A* or A grades, with almost half being A* to B grades and just over three-quarters grades of A* to C.
The 97.2 per cent pass rate of A* to E grades in Powys was slightly below the Welsh average of 97.4 per cent.
