Two rural schools in Ceredigion have been forced to close after coronavirus cases were confirmed today.

Ceredigion County Council has confirmed that a case of coronavirus has been identified at Ysgol Dihewyd, and following a case on Monday, another has been confirmed at Ysgol Ciliau Parc in Ciliau Aeron.

Both schools will be closed temporarily as pupils in contact groups in both schools are asked to self isolate for 14 days.

Ysgol Dihewyd will only be closed today as a precautionary measure and to enable all contacts to be identified and for a deep clean to take place. One contact group will have to self-isolate as a result of the positive test result.

Two contact groups out of three have been asked to self-isolate at Ysgol Ciliau Parc following positive cases of coronavirus and due to lack of staffing, the whole school will be closed for a period of time according to Ceredigion County Council.

A spokesperson for the council said: "These pupils and staff must remain at home for 14 days to reduce the possible spread of the virus to family, friends and the wider community.

"The council urges all parents to refer their children for a test if they develop any of the symptoms, which are: a high temperature; a new continuous cough; a loss or change to sense of smell or taste.

"Parents should also be aware of other symptoms early on, such as headaches, tiredness and general aches and pains usually associated with the flu."
