A LLANIDLOES student has received two outstanding achievement awards in the field of engineering.

NPTC Group of Colleges student Lisa Crowther-James has been recognised for her accomplishments in working toward her Level 2 in welding.

When mother-of-two Lisa began to consider her career options she thought about work at her family-run business, Mid Wales Welded Productions Ltd in Llanidloes, she quickly wanted to gain more knowledge and confidence to support the business to grow.

Her initial reservations about starting a welding course as a mature learner, in a male-dominated environment, were quickly overcome after a visit to the college.

The full-time course included both study and practical work and Lisa managed to undertake all that was required alongside juggling childcare, with the support of course tutor Nic Harris.

Nic said: “Lisa was always a hard worker who never made excuses and rose to every challenge.

“She was an easy candidate to put forward for the awards as she showed commitment and dedication throughout the course.”

Lisa was presented with certificates and a cheque from The South Wales Institute of Engineers Education Trust (2007) – Special Engineering Award for Excellence, and a trophy and cheque from NPTC Group of Colleges’ Student Award for Outstanding Achievement – Engineering School Winner (North).
