TWO students from Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor’s Dolgellau campus are to represent Wales after scooping top prizes at a prestigious All-Wales Guild of Bricklayers competition.

Ifan Williams, from Llangwndadl, near Pwllheli, and Lewis Griffiths, of Machynlleth, travelled to Bridgend College to take part in the Welsh regional final, competing against the best bricklaying students from across the country.

Lewis competed in the junior section and took the first prize against 13 others.

Ifan won the senior section, competing against eight bricklayers in what was a tense, tough competition.

They will now represent Wales in the national UK final in Brooklands College in Weybridge, Surrey on 27 June.

Michael Taylor, programme area manager for Construction and Engineering at Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor’s Camda Construction Centre, said: “We are proud that our students took the top prizes in both the senior and junior sections of this competition, prevailing against stiff competition from across the whole of Wales.

“We wish them both the best of luck in June when they proceed to compete at UK level and hope they continue with their success there.”
