Madam,
I write on behalf of those less fortunate than myself, unable to do so, or without the financial resources. I know from my own experience how difficult it is to get care - even paying privately.
Because the carers are so badly paid they are leaving the service for better-paid jobs, consequently even the private care companies have either been forced to close in this area or are not taking on new clients.
Due to cost-cutting, Ceredigion’s social services has long since sourced out care to private companies, hence few carers are available for care in the home.
To the best of my knowledge the retirement homes with vacancies are a long distance away from Aberystwyth making visiting very difficult for husbands, wives or elderly friends, condemning the person requiring care to a very lonely end of life. We are not parcels to be dropped off anywhere it is convenient!
I hope that the councillors will reconsider their closure of Bodlondeb at least until an alternative residence can be provided.
They too will be old one day so I hope that things improve for them. Hopefully they are already making provisions, with the high salaries on which there never seems reason to economise.
Yours etc,
M Gibbins, Aberystwyth.
