A 10-YEAR-OLD Aberystwyth girl has helped raise more than £1,700 for a charity which helped her family when her dad was diagnosed with cancer.

Ysgol Rhydypennau pupil Elin Gore helped raise £1,768.27 for Macmillan Cancer Support by holding a coffee morning at Rhydypennau Village Hall on Saturday, after her father, Dusty Gore, was diagnosed with neck cancer in April.

Speaking to the Cambrian News ahead of the coffee morning, Elin’s mum Nia said her 53-year-old husband was now entering the final stages of radiotherapy treatment after a tumour was successfully removed by surgeons.

And Mrs Gore said it was Elin who came up with the idea of holding a coffee morning to repay the “fantastic” support shown by the charity to the Gores, who live near Comins Coch.

“Elin stood up last week in school assembly in front of 160 children and told them what she was doing and why she was doing it,” Mrs Gore said.

“Macmillan have helped us with filling in forms, the nurses have been fantastic, and the grant money has been a massive help. When you go from working full-time to not being able to work, it can be very difficult.

“Elin saw the coffee mornings advertised and said ‘shall we do one as Macmillan has helped Daddy, and I would like to give back to them’.”
