THE daughter of a Llanilar born-and-bred man has scooped a prestigious Writers’ Guild of Great Britain award.

Emma Reeves, the daughter of Viv Reeves and his wife Barbara, won the award for the Best Children’s Television Episode, entitled Control, Alter, Delete, in the second series of Eve on CBBC. It tells the story of a little girl who is really a robot.

Emma has previously been nominated for a Writers’ Guild award for her work on Tracey Beaker Returns and The Dumping Ground. She has also written for The Story of Tracey Beaker, Hetty Feather and Sadie J, as well as Belonging and Doctors.

Emma was presented with the award — a glass trophy — at a ceremony at the Institute of British Architects. The presentation was made by writer Phil Ford, who has written for Doctor Who and Wizards versus Aliens.

Emma said: “As well as receiving the award, I was delighted to meet Russell T Davies, who was receiving a Guild award for outstanding contribution.

“I have been a huge fan of his writing, so it was amazing to meet him.”

A freelance writer for CBBC for 10 years, Emma’s stage adaptation of Nina Bawden’s Carrie’s War ran at the Apollo Theatre, London, for a summer season in 2009.

The play was also staged in Aberystwyth, in a production by the Arts Centre’s youth theatre. She is currently working on series three of Eve, and a new adaptation of The Worst Witch, both for CBBC.

Emma’s mother, Barbara Reeves, said: “Viv and I are very proud of Emma’s award but, more importantly, delighted for her.”
