A Llanon businessman has managed to raise over £2,000 for Bronglais Hospital by growing a moustache.

Emyr Jones, of D Jones & Sons Funeral Directors in Llanon, has managed to raise a staggering £2,240 in cash donations for the Rhiannon Ward, in Bronglais.

Emyr said he chose to donate to the Rhiannon ward after his mother, who was diagnosed with cancer six years ago, was admitted there for treatment.

The staff and doctors who treated his mother were “fantastic” and so Emyr wanted to take the opportunity to “give something back”.

“It all started in March when a friend dared me to grow a heavy moustache, and if I did he would donate £30 to a charitable cause of my choice,” Emyr explained.

“And from there it grew, moustache and funds. Local community and Llanon village stores were also a great help, a vast amount contributed came as far as London, Derbyshire and Yorkshire.

“The reason for donating the proceedings to Rhiannon Ward, Bronglais hospital as my mother was treated for cancer six years ago and staff and doctors were fantastic. I am indebted to them, and it’s a kind way of saying thank you.”
