Ad/Lib Cymru will bring two exclusive, Welsh-language shows to Neuadd Dwyfor, Pwllheli, giving audiences a rare chance to get up close and personal with three of Wales’ most recognisable entertainment figures.
On Tuesday, 13 October, ‘Noson yng Nghwmni Hywel a Beti’ (‘An Evening in the Company of Hywel and Beti’, brings together two of Wales’ most beloved Welsh-language broadcasters. The iconic duo will turn their microphones on each other, sharing untold stories, laughs, and insights from their decades-long broadcasting careers.
Hywel and Beti are two of the most influential pioneers in the history of Welsh-language broadcasting. For over half a century, their voices have shaped the identity of modern Welsh media.
A native of Anglesey, Hywel is a legendary television and radio personality, writer, and lyricist. He holds a permanent place in cultural history as the very first voice ever heard on BBC Radio Cymru when the station launched in 1977. Known for his warmth, quick wit, and deep passion for Welsh entertainment, he has been a mainstay of the BBC and S4C for generations.
Born in Coed-y-Bryn near Llandysul, Beti broke boundaries as one of the first prominent female news anchors in Wales, famously presenting S4C’s flagship evening news program, Newyddion. Since 1987, she has hosted the iconic BBC Radio Cymru show Beti a'i Phobol—the Welsh counterpart to Desert Island Discs. Beyond her stellar media career (which includes winning a Lifetime Achievement Award), she is a fiercely respected, high-profile national campaigner for dementia awareness and healthcare reform.
The star-studded line-up continues on Sunday, 8 November with an intimate evening featuring celebrated Pobol y Cwm actress Sue Roderick. Roderick will be interviewed live on stage by fellow actor and popular presenter Ieuan Rhys. The evening promises a candid look into her life on and off screen, with producers teasing that the multi-talented actress might even treat the audience to a live musical performance during the night.
Born in Bangor, Sue is one of Wales' most versatile and enduring actresses, seamlessly navigating major roles across Welsh-language television, English-language drama, and the silver screen.
She is a household name across Wales for her long-standing role in S4C's flagship soap opera, Pobol y Cwm. Her extensive Welsh TV credits also include lead roles in acclaimed series like Caerdydd, Gwaith/Cartref, Minafon and Coronation Street
Beyond Wales, she is fondly remembered by film fans for playing Lucy Cartwright in the 97' cult hit film Twin Town. She has also appeared in UK-wide staples like Coronation Street (playing two different roles across 1989 and 2013), Sky's Stella, and the Oscar-nominated Welsh film Hedd Wyn.
Sue is also a highly skilled professional singer and vocal artist, which explains why the producers are hinting that she might break into song during her evening with Ieuan!
Sue's evening will bridge the worlds of gritty film sets, soap opera drama, and musical theatre, showing off the full breadth of her remarkable talent.
Tickets are expected to sell quickly. For show times, ticket prices, and booking information, contact the Neuadd Dwyfor box office or visit their website.
