AN ABERYSTWYTH environmental campaigner has completed a two-week cycle around the circumference of Wales to raise awareness of ocean plastic pollution.
Chris Woodfield began his Pedal Against Plastic – Wales Coastline Adventure on 5 August, finishing in Cardiff Bay on 20 August.
Chris, the co-ordinator of Plastic Free Aberystwyth, who organises beach-cleans as part of Aberystwyth Beach Buddies, visited communities along the way, highlighting the issue of ocean plastics by engaging with members of the public, carrying out beach-cleans and posting tips on how to live a plastic-free life.
Throughout his journey Chris lived single-use plastic-free and collected donations for charities Surfers Against Sewage and Keep Wales Tidy.
The trip raised more than £500.
Chris said: “It was really great to be able to share my passion of reducing marine plastics and combine this with travel and adventure with a positive purpose.
“I was smiling the whole way and one of the best things was the kindness strangers offered to me - a place to stay and food along the way.”
Chris stayed with people along the coast as well as camping out and carrying everything he needed on the bike.
“One of the highlights was visiting the island of Skomer, however this was contrasted with the amount of plastic we picked up in one small cove on the island.
“We collected large fishing nets, thousands of pieces of polystyrene and plastic bottles and containers from as far afield as Spain.”
