THE parents of a Llanbedrog man who tragically died whilst working in China are raising money for charity in his memory.
Robin Llyr Evans died on 24 September 2015 when he fell down a lift shaft while working at Optics Valley International Tennis Centre in Wuhan, China.
To help cope with their loss his devastated parents, Gareth and Menai Evans, decided they would hold a sponsored walk in his memory which has seen them covering 892 miles of the Wales Coastal Path.
The funds raised will go towards the Wales Air Ambulance, Hope House and Cwt Robin – a stand at Pwllheli Rugby Club.
Mr Evans said: “We began walking before Robin passed away, it was a way to relax and keep fit. We’d already completed around 55 per cent of the 892 miles before September 2015.
“Since Robin’s death we have found walking a way to help us cope, so we decided to complete the last 45 per cent, most in the south of Wales, in memory of our son and raise money in his name.
“We hope to finish the walk by 20 August, which would have been Robin’s 21st birthday.
“The last few months have been extremely difficult, but the walking has helped us a great deal to cope. Friends, family and businesses have been and are very supportive of our campaign and that has driven us to reach our goal.
“The fundraising is going really well and our initial target of £3,000 has been well exceeded and our new target now is £10,000.”
Mr Evans said Robin would be extremely pleased that they were raising funds for their chosen three charities and described his son as ‘enthusiastic’ and ‘energetic’.
To make a donation, you can send a cheque made out to ‘Cronfa Robin’ and send it to Pendyffryn, Llanbedrog, LL53 7UA, or through Paypal by sending your donation to pendyffryn@btinternet.com.
