An ex-soldier is sleeping outside for one week to raise money for Royal British Legion Industries which supported him when he was homeless.
Graham Crofts, 48, will be raising money for the RBLI armed forces charity by sleeping out on a campsite for a week “whatever the weather”.
Graham (pictured) started his week-long sleep-out last night.
The RBLI was founded in 1919 to support the Armed Forces, Veterans and their families across the UK, providing employment support, advice and homes to those struggling on civvy street.
The RBLI are “determined to help get people back into work”.
The organisation also provides a wide range of support to people with disabilities and are “determined to help reduce the disability employment gap” by supporting people into and in work.
Raising awareness and funds for the RBLI is particular important for Graham after they helped him find accommodation and start his own gardening business when he was homeless.
“I’m going to be campaigning to raise awareness of homeless veterans. The RBLI provides housing, support, money, help, that sort of thing, for veterans. They helped me, when I was homeless in Aberystwyth.
“I’ve lived in Wales for around 25 years and I went back to Leicestershire for a while. I came back here, after splitting with a girlfriend. I was homeless and sleeping on the beach. I got in touch with the RBLI and they helped me.
“The guys on the streets, they do what they can. I slept in the shelters that are on the beach, I got a duvet. Then I tried to sleep under the mini pier but then it rained and I got drenched and had to throw my duvet away.
“Now I want to give a bit back. I’ve got a bit of time on my hands and I would like to help.
“All donations can be made online or in cash. I am not expecting anything from this, but I would like to raise awareness for the RBLI.”
So far, Graham has raised £150 for the RBLI.
